About Priscilla
Priscilla Chang is known for her musicality and sensitive playing. She has won prizes in many different competitions and has been featured in numerous performances. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree under the instruction of Alexander Braginsky at the University of Minnesota in May of 2021.
During her studies with Braginsky, Priscilla was featured with the Virtuosi Brunenses Orchestra in the Sala dei Notari in Perugia, Italy during Music Fest Perugia in August 2018, performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 under the baton of Conductor Uri Segal. In competitions, Priscilla placed 1st in the 2019 Edvard Grieg Society of Minnesota Piano Competition and was invited to perform in both a winners’ concert and a showcase recital at the MMTA (Minnesota Music Teachers’ Association) Convention. She was also the winner of both the Schubert Club Scholarship Competition and Mechelke Scholarship Competition in the spring of 2018.
At the Peabody Conservatory, where Priscilla acquired her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees studying under Ellen Mack, Priscilla was also selected to perform in a number of conservatory concerts, including the Liszt Extravaganza series given in honor of Liszt’s 200th birthday and the Thursday Noon concert series.
A native of Southern California, Priscilla studied with Kyung Ja Bae. She became a member of the Young Artist Guild in 2010 and won top prizes in a myriad of competitions, such as the MTNA Senior Yamaha Performance National Competition, the MTAC State Solo Competition, the Southern California Junior Bach Complete Works Audition, and the CAPMT Bartok Competition. She also won first prizes in the MTAC Theme Festival, Musical Arts Club of Orange County, and Cypress College competitions, and in many open categories in Southwestern Youth Music Festival. After winning in the SYMF Complete American Competition in 2003, Priscilla was invited to perform at the Showcase Recital at Mayman Hall of the Colburn School of Performing Arts. In 2004, she was also selected by the Friends of Today’s Music organization of MTAC to perform the World Premiere of Meditation and Dance for piano and clarinet by Steven Stucky.
Priscilla is also an avid performer of chamber music and often sought after for collaborative projects. She has worked with fellow musicians in the Twin Cities, Minnesota and in Orange County, California, where she is now based.
As a teacher, Priscilla has worked with a wide variety of students, from young children to adults. She has taught privately and also in university, purveying a love of music to her students. Priscilla is an active member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California and serves as a director in the Orange Coast Cities branch to help create more performance opportunities for music students to share and enjoy music. She currently serves as co-chair of the Contemporary Music Festival. A believer in music’s ability to bring healing and joy in life, Priscilla is passionate about sharing the beauty of music with her community.
